Health & Social Care
We are seeking to help provide students with the skills and qualifications needed for a possible career in the health, social and early years care sectors. The qualification could also lead to a number of opportunities within Higher Education and the twenty first century workplace.
During the course of study, students will learn in detail how the caring professions contribute to society. Students can use a range of resources and textbooks, together with the Learning Resource Centre and computers throughout the school, to complete their work. They will have the opportunity to visit organisations within the care sector such as Residential Care Homes or Day-Care Centres/ Nurseries and gain experience to help them to learn about the topics studied within the units of work.
We have had a number of visiting speakers who have shared their experience and expertise with students. These have included the Manager of a Residential Care Home and the Service Manager from the Brain Injury Rehabilitation Trust.
This academic year, our GCSE students have had successful visits to Chelmsford College Nursery and our AS and A2 students visited Admiral’s Reach Care Home, Westlands Early Years’ Department and Kiddi Karu Day Care Centre in Writtle.
