There is an opportunity to re-sit exams should the student believe they can improve the grade they achieved. Subject teachers can provide advice on this. The cost varies between Exam Boards and whether the paper is GCSE or GCE.
Students will be prioritised for re-sits who: -
Obtained a D grade and have the potential to obtain a C grade or higher.
Scored 2 or more grades below their target grade.
Wish to pursue an A level in the subject and have failed to make the entrance criteria, but are capable of doing so.
Key Stage Co-ordinators or Senior Leadership Team will make the final decision.
All new GCSE units may be re-taken ONLY ONCE before certification.
With effect from September 2013 the only GCSE re-sits available will be English, English Language and Mathematics in November. Also with effect from September 2013, GCE units will only be available to sit in the May/June exam series. The January re-sit opportunity is being withdrawn.
Any re-sit request must be authorised by the subject Head of Department and the payment must be received before the re-sit entry is made. There are deadlines set by the Exam Boards for receiving entries and any entries received after the deadline will incur a penalty fee of double the entry fee (within 30 days of the deadline) or treble the fee (over 30 days late). This penalty is set by the Exam Boards not Hylands School.
