Come on Downs!

This year, at the start of the Summer holidays four of our pupils embarked on the expedition part of their Duke of Edinburgh Silver Award. The first hike was to the South Downs

On Sunday 21st July, a bright sunny morning, Mr Clark and I gathered the four lads together and set off in the school minibus. It was a fairly quiet journey because it was early Sunday morning and the lads were not really awake! At about lunch time we arrived at the start near the Plough Inn at Pyecombe.

The four students, Sam Goodwin, Dan Symes, Adam Rowe and Lewis Cox, looked well refreshed and raring to go!

From there they walked up on to the downs and camped at the Small Dole scout campsite.

After a quiet night in a very empty field and a slight problem of fitting two large sixth formers and rucksacks in a small tent, they set off for the day to the nature Reserve near Ditchling.

Final day saw slightly cooler weather and it was back over the downs again.

The end was in sight at the University of Sussex and they quickly arrived there, for the final journey home.
