Modern Foreign Languages
The MFL department is based in 2 recently refurbished classrooms all with modern and interactive ICT equipment. We have our own ICT suite where students are encouraged to work independently to improve their language skills.
We aim to give all students regardless of their ability the opportunity to gain a qualification in at least one modern language.
Key Stage 3
Students in Y7 learn French and Spanish for the whole year and are invited to choose one of them to continue in Y8 and KS4. Text books are used in class and extracts are loaded onto the Involve part of the Pupil Reward Points website for homework tasks.
Independent learning is encouraged through use of ICT resources, pairwork, groupwork and whole class activities.

Why study a language at GCSE?
By taking a language at GCSE you’ll have amazing skills. A language in GCSE builds on what you’ve already learnt in Key Stage 3, you will also find out about other people, countries and cultures so it really an interesting and varied subject.
Students have regular access to small groupwork with a French or Spanish native speaker to help them prepare for the oral exams and also have the opportunity to work with Sixth Form mentors to help them gain confidence with speaking and writing.
We are currently working towards setting up a link with a school in Nice and organising a trip to visit a French school. There is already a link with a school in Contabria, Spain.
