Forest Schools

Forest School is an opportunity for students to learn outside the classroom. They have been exploring their personal capabilities through a range of different tasks. Students have been making their own shelters, using teamwork to succeed in creating a swing and persevered to make a fire without a match.
The tasks that students set themselves are child-led, meaning their own resilience and problem solving skills come into play. They are encouraged to identify and manage risks, ensuring that they and others are safe, whilst challenging themselves to achieve their goals.
Forest School is a new initiative at Hylands, however, students are enthusiastic and keen to attend as they develop their skills in a very different learning environment to the one they are used to.
