Year 9 have been working with the charity First Give on a project in tutor time since October half term. The First Give programme inspires and empowers young people to take action to make a positive change in society. They are a charity who work in partnership with schools to deliver an innovative and interactive programme.
Each tutor group has researched local charities and then voted on which one their tutor would represent. Now they will be raising awareness and running events to raise money for their chosen charities. In the last 2 weeks before half term there will be some activities for all students to get involved in and any money raised will go to those local charities.
9H has chosen the charity Kid’s Inspire, and still have to decide their fundraising activity so keep an eye out for that. Kid’s Inspire, through a range of therapeutic and community activities promote resilience, self-awareness, and relationship building to empower more positive life choices.
9Y has chosen the charity The Change Project, this charity supports adults and young people who have been victims of domestic violence. They provide counselling and workshops for young people on relationships. 9Y will be going around Tutor rooms with a ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ competition! Winner gets the sweets! This will be between the 7th and 11th February.
9L has chosen the charity Sanctus, Sanctus is a charity based in Chelmsford and the only day centre serving the homeless and vulnerable in a significant part of Essex. They are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Homelessness is a growing problem in Chelmsford. 9L will be holding a charity football match and cake sale on the 9th of February.
9A has chosen the charity CARA, this charity is a registered charity working with adults of all genders, young people and children from across mid and north Essex. CARA provides many services to help sexual abuse survivors recover. 9A will be holding a penalty shoot out and wearing trainers to school day on Wednesday 2nd February. Comfy shoes for an uncomfortable subject.
More information nearer the time will be communicated but I am sure you can agree they are all very worthy and well chosen charities.
Well done year 9!
