Year 11 Students Visit Oxford University
Year 11 Students Visit Oxford UniversityFour Year 11 students from Hylands School were given an exciting opportunity to visit Oxford University’s St Hugh’s College as part of a trust-wide trip organised by The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT). They were joined by students from other TKAT secondary schools for a day filled with inspiration, learning, and exploration.
The day began with a series of informative talks about super-curricular activities, choosing the right course and university, and the Oxbridge application process. Students also took part in a Q&A session with current undergraduates, who shared their experiences of university life and offered valuable advice on how to prepare for higher education.
Following the talks, students were given a guided tour of St Hugh’s College and its beautiful grounds, gaining a real insight into what life is like on campus.
After lunch, the group had the opportunity to take part in an academic taster session at either the Ashmolean Museum or the Oxford University Museum of Natural History. At the Ashmolean, students explored a fascinating range of exhibits—from ancient Egyptian mummies to modern artworks—and reflected on how university study connects to the wider world.
Overall, the students found the trip both educational and inspirational, leaving them motivated to aim high and consider all the exciting possibilities that higher education can offer.
Throughout the day, our students demonstrated the Hylands values — Be Responsible, Be Respectful, Be Resilient — and were outstanding ambassadors for the school.
A huge thank you to The Kemnal Academies Trust for organising this incredible trip and providing our students with such a valuable and inspiring opportunity.
