Year 7 Football: Resilience and Respect in Season Finale

7da49f8a 63ee 4e4e b6a9 acff00d82b79The Year 7 boys’ football team concluded their season this week with what was arguably one of their finest collective performances to date. Facing a tough away fixture against Shenfield, the team displayed incredible spirit and tactical discipline from the first whistle.

Match Summary

Hylands took an early command of the game, going 2-0 up within the first half. The lead was built on a foundation of excellent attacking play and clinical finishing.

For the majority of the match, the defensive unit was outstanding, keeping the opposition at bay despite sustained pressure. However, with no substitutes available and the home side pushing hard in the closing stages, the physical demand began to tell. Shenfield managed to claw a goal back with five minutes remaining, and in a dramatic finish, secured a 2-2 draw following a free kick awarded in extra time.

Demonstrating Hylands Habits

While a last-minute equaliser is always tough to take, the scoreline only tells half the story. The boys truly embodied our Hylands Habits throughout the afternoon:

  • Resilience: Playing the entire match without rotations, the team worked tirelessly for one another, even when fatigue set in during the final ten minutes.

  • Respect: Despite the frustration of a last-gasp draw, the players showed impeccable sportsmanship toward the opposition and officials at the full-time whistle.

It has been a pleasure to watch this group develop their skills and teamwork throughout the season. We look forward to seeing them back on the pitch next year!

Final Score: Hylands 2 - 2 Shenfield Man of the Match: The entire squad for an incredible team effort.
