Performing Arts
![]()
Through performance and evaluation, the department aims to give students the opportunity to consider their own and others’ attitudes in a controlled environment.
Performing Arts enhances student’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development as well as allowing them to develop as speakers and listeners. Students develop their studies in Performing Arts by developing their techniques, performance and theatre skills through a combination of choreography, improvisation and script work.
Key Stage 3 Performing Arts
The focus in Years 7, 8, and 9 is on developing knowledge and acquiring basic performance skills and techniques.
We aim to develop students into confident, articulate, and creative individuals, and for them to develop skills that are essential for any profession they seek to pursue in the future.
GCSE Dance
Pupils in Years 10 & 11 continue to build on key skills acquired in KS3. The BTEC Dance course allows pupils to build on choreography, performance and appreciation skills. Pupils develop their dance technique through workshops in a variety of styles. Physical, Expressive and Mental skills are developed throughout the course.
The BTEC Level 2 Tech Award in Performing Arts (Dance) allows students to develop both their theoretical and practical knowledge of dance through vocational contexts.
GCSE Drama
GCSE Drama offers students the opportunity to develop a range of performance skills as well as important social skills, enabling them to become as professional and accomplished as they can be for their future. Students complete three units with the examination board AQA exploring a range of skills and stimuli.
They also complete a 2000-word portfolio which documents their devising process and allows them to analyse and evaluate their work. KS4 concludes with a written exam which focuses on a set text along with a live performance which the students will see in year 11.
